Banner printing in Nigeria looks simple until the banner arrives: too small to read from the road, too large for the wall, printed on the wrong material for the rain, or with text cut off at the edge. Most of these problems are decided before the printer starts, at the point where you choose size, material, finishing and artwork.

This guide helps you choose the right banner for a shop, church programme, school event, promotion or stage. It covers indoor and outdoor use, sizes, materials, finishing, readability and how to prepare artwork. Prices change, so see the live prices on our flex banner page and our flex banner price list.

Banner printing in Nigeria: choosing the right flex banner size and material for a business

Start with where the banner will hang

The location decides almost everything else. Ask these four questions first:

  • Indoors or outdoors? Outdoor banners face sun, rain and wind. Indoor banners face handling and folding.
  • How long will it stay up? A one-day event banner and a permanent shop sign are different jobs.
  • How far will people read it from? A banner on a busy road must be read in seconds from far away.
  • Can people see both sides? A banner hung between two poles may be viewed from both directions.

Choose the size from the space and the reading distance, not from the price. This table gives a practical starting point. Always measure the space on site before you order.

UseCommon sizes

Choose the right banner material

Most outdoor banners in Nigeria are printed on flex, a PVC-coated material. Within that family there are different weights and types. Material names and weights vary by supplier, so ask your printer exactly what they use.

Material typeWhat it isBest for
Frontlit flexOpaque banner viewed in daylight or reflected light; light does not shine through itMost shop, event and outdoor banners
Heavier frontlit or blockout flexThicker and more opaque material that hides what is behind itLonger outdoor use, windy places and banners seen from both sides
Backlit flexTranslucent material made to glow when lit from behindLightboxes and illuminated signs, not normal hanging banners
Mesh bannerPerforated material that lets wind pass throughVery windy locations and large fences

Based on supplier descriptions such as BannerBuzz’s backlit vs flex comparison. Names and weights vary by supplier.

One supplier lists a lighter 13 oz frontlit banner for one-sided use and a heavier 18 oz banner for long outdoor use and two-sided display, which shows how weight and price rise together. Our Print Shop banners use standard flex material. If you need a particular weight, a mesh banner or a lightbox film, tell us when you ask for a quote.

Finishing: hems, eyelets and ties

Finishing makes a banner last. A plain trimmed edge is cheapest. A reinforced hem is stronger and resists tearing, especially outdoors. Eyelets, which are metal rings, let you tie or hook the banner up.

  • Ask whether hemming and eyelets are included or charged separately.
  • Keep important text and logos at least a few centimetres away from the edge, so hems and eyelets do not cover them.
  • For large banners in wind, ask for extra eyelets and consider a mesh material.
  • Bring rope, ties or a frame, or ask the printer to supply them.

Design for readability from a distance

A banner is read in seconds. Make it simple:

  • One main message. The business name or offer should be readable first.
  • Large text. As a rule of thumb, signmakers often allow about one inch of letter height for every ten feet of reading distance. A banner read from 30 feet needs letters of about three inches or more.
  • High contrast. Dark text on a light background, or white text on a dark one. Avoid thin fonts and busy backgrounds.
  • Few words. Name, main service, phone or WhatsApp number and location are usually enough.
  • A clear contact. Spell the phone number in large digits.

Prepare artwork for banner printing in Nigeria

  1. Set the exact size. Create your file in the final dimensions, such as 4×5 feet, or at a scaled size with the same proportions.
  2. Use vector artwork where possible. Logos and text stay sharp at any size. Read our guide on vector graphics for large-format printing.
  3. Check photo quality. A phone picture stretched to 6 feet will look soft. For large banners, a lower resolution at full size is acceptable because viewers stand far away, but avoid tiny, pixelated images.
  4. Convert or outline text. If you send a design file, convert fonts to curves or embed them, so the text does not change.
  5. Send a PDF. A PDF is safest for a print shop, and you should check every word and number on the final file. See print-ready PDF.

What does banner printing cost?

Flex banners are priced by area, so compare printers by price per square foot: multiply width by height in feet and divide the quoted price by that number. Choose “With Design” if you need us to design it. Published “starting from” rates are best-case figures, so ask for the final price for your exact size and finishing. Our full table and comparison is in the flex banner price list, and a general overview is in our guide to printing cost in Nigeria.

What size banner should I print for my shop?

For a shop front, 4x5ft to 5x7ft is common. Measure the wall or frame and consider the reading distance from the road before you decide.

What is the best material for outdoor banner printing in Nigeria?

Frontlit flex is the most common outdoor choice. For heavy wind or two-sided display, ask for a heavier flex or a mesh banner.

How much does banner printing in Nigeria cost?

It depends on the size, the material and whether design is included. Our Print Shop shows the exact price for each size, with or without design, before you order.

What resolution do I need for a large banner?

Vector artwork is best. For photos, check the quality at the final size; viewing distance means a lower resolution can be acceptable, but blurry images should be replaced.

Do you design banners?

Yes. Choose “With Design” on the banner page or request a custom quote.
