  • Round. A favourite for lids, jars, tubs and pouches. A round label also looks neat when it is placed in the middle of a container.
  • Oval. Vertical or horizontal. A vertical oval suits a tall bottle, and a horizontal oval suits a wide tub.
  • Rectangle and square. A good fit for bottles, boxes and flat pouches.
  • Custom shapes. A shape that follows your logo or your product, for example a leaf, a cup or a badge, gives your brand a distinct look.

How to choose between custom shape stickers

  1. Start with the container. Look at the flat area. A round tub lid suits a round label. A tall bottle suits a rectangle or a vertical oval. Measure it first. See how to measure a container for a sticker.
  2. Keep the shape simple. A circle, an oval or a rectangle is easy to peel, easy to place and easy to repeat. A complicated shape with narrow points can lift at the tips.
  3. Match your brand. If your logo is round, use a round label. If it is wide, use a horizontal shape.
  4. Use one shape across your range. The same round label on a tub, a jar and a pouch keeps your products looking like one brand.
  5. Test it. Cut a paper shape and hold it against your container before you order.

Look at small chop sellers, soap makers and cosmetics sellers, and you will see many round labels. A circle fits lids, curved jars and small pouches without corners that can lift, and a single round design can go on every container in a range. It is also the easiest shape to centre a logo in.

How to ask an AI tool for custom shape stickers

If you design your own artwork with AI, tell the tool the shape in your prompt. Ask for a perfect circle for a round label, a vertical oval or a horizontal oval for an oval label, or the proportions for a rectangle, such as square (1:1) or wide (3:2).   • Say the shape you want: round, oval, rectangle or custom.
  • Give the size: for a round label, the diameter. For other shapes, the width and the height. Say whether you used centimetres or inches.
  • For a custom shape, send your artwork on a plain background, or a paper template of the shape.
