Wrap-around labels for bottles are long, narrow stickers that go all the way around a cylindrical container instead of sitting on the front. One size is used so often that many sellers simply ask for it by name: 7 x 2 inches. It is 7 inches long, 2 inches high, and it wraps around the diameter of bottles such as water bottles, honey bottles, liquid soap bottles and plastic bottles of groundnut.
This guide is part of our series on small batch stickers in Nigeria. Last updated: 16 October 2026.
This guide explains what a wrap-around label is, how to tell whether a 7 x 2 inch label fits your bottle, how to design for a wide, narrow strip, and how to put the label on straight. It is part of a series: for the general case, see small batch stickers in Nigeria.

What are wrap-around labels for bottles?
A wrap-around label is a long sticker that goes round the body of a bottle. Because the bottle is cylindrical, the label wraps around its diameter, and the two ends meet at the back, or leave a small gap. It gives you a continuous band of branding all the way round, instead of a single label on the front.
The most common size for small and medium plastic bottles is 7 x 2 inches. That is about 17.8 cm long and 5.1 cm high. Other lengths can be cut for larger or smaller bottles, and the same idea works at any size. See sticker sizes for small products.

Which products use wrap-around labels for bottles?
- Bottled water. A band around a water bottle looks tidy and carries the brand name and contact. Water is regulated, so check the rules with NAFDAC.
- Honey. A long, narrow label suits honey in plastic bottles.
- Liquid soap. Cylindrical soap bottles take a wrap-around band well. See liquid soap labels and cosmetic stickers.
- Groundnut and other snacks in plastic bottles. Clear bottles show the product, and the label wraps around them. See labels for small chop sellers.
- Drinks. Zobo, kunu, yoghurt and tigernut drink in round bottles. See drink bottle labels for zobo, kunu and yoghurt.
- Oils and sauces in cylindrical plastic bottles.
Wrap-around labels for bottles: how to tell if 7 x 2 inches fits
The length of a wrap-around label depends on the distance around the bottle, called its circumference. You do not need to calculate anything: wrap a strip of paper around your bottle at the height where the label will go, mark where the ends meet, take it off and measure the strip with a ruler.
If you do want a rough idea, the distance around a bottle is its diameter multiplied by about 3.14. Here is what that means for common diameters:
| Bottle diameter | Distance around the bottle | Does 7 inches go all the way round? |
|---|---|---|
| 2 inches (5.1 cm) | About 6.3 inches | Yes, with a little overlap to spare |
| 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) | About 7.1 inches | Almost exactly |
| 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) | About 7.9 inches | No, a gap is left at the back |
| 3 inches (7.6 cm) | About 9.4 inches | No, it needs a longer label |
These figures are approximate. Always measure your own bottle with a strip of paper and a ruler.
If the strip is shorter than 7 inches, a 7 x 2 inch label will go all the way round. If it is longer, either choose a longer label or accept a gap at the back. A gap is not a fault. Many bottles look neat with the label covering only the front and the sides. See how to measure a container for a sticker for the full measuring method.
Wrap-around labels for bottles: full wrap, small gap or overlap?
- Small gap. The most common choice. The label ends are a few millimetres apart at the back, so there is no overlap and the label lies flat.
- Tight wrap. The two ends meet exactly. It looks clean but needs careful application.
- Overlap. The end covers the start. This is safest for hold, but make sure no text is hidden under the overlap.
Make the label slightly shorter than the distance around the bottle, and place the seam at the back.
How to design wrap-around labels for bottles in 7 x 2 inches
A 7 x 2 inch label is a wide, narrow strip, with proportions of 3.5 to 1. It does not behave like a square label, so design it as a strip from the start.
- Put the main information in the front third. A customer sees only part of a wrapped label at a time. Place the brand name, the product and the flavour or type in the middle of the strip, where it will face the front.
- Repeat the phone number. Put your contact on the left and the right ends, so it can be read from different sides.
- Keep text away from the seam. Leave the ends clear, so nothing is cut or hidden by an overlap.
- Keep text large and bold. A band is only 2 inches high, so a short, bold name reads better than a long sentence. See readable text on small labels.
- Use a simple design. A bold, flat background colour and one clear logo repeat well around a bottle.
- Allow a margin. Keep text a few millimetres from the top and bottom edges.
Prompting AI for a wide wrap-around label
If you make your artwork with AI, tell the tool the shape and the proportions: a wide horizontal strip, in 7:2 proportions. For example:
“Design a simple, flat wide label strip in 7:2 proportions for a [honey / liquid soap / groundnut / water] brand called [Brand Name]. Bold shapes, maximum two colours, plain background, centred logo with space on both sides. Do not include excessive detail, floral decoration, brush strokes, extra icons, gradients, shadows or any text.”
Add your name and phone number yourself in a design tool. The artwork can be resized proportionally to other wrap-around sizes later, as long as the 7:2 proportions are kept. A 7 x 2 inch file at 300 pixels per inch is 2100 x 600 pixels. See AI prompts for sticker logos and how to resize an image for stickers.
How to put wrap-around labels for bottles on straight
- Clean and dry the bottle. Remove water, dust and oil, and let the bottle reach room temperature.
- Choose the height. Decide where the band should go and mark it lightly, or use a rubber band as a straight guide.
- Start in the middle of the front. Peel a little of the backing, stick the centre of the label to the bottle, and smooth outwards.
- Wrap slowly. Peel the backing as you go, keeping the label level with the guide.
- Press flat. Smooth out air bubbles from the centre to the ends.
- Let it settle. Wait a short while before filling, chilling or handling the bottle with wet hands.
Our stickers are vinyl and are cut so they peel off the sheet easily when you are ready to use them. Vinyl suits bottles that get cold, damp or oily.
Order wrap-around labels for bottles in small quantities
You do not need hundreds of labels to start. Order 50 or 100, test them on real bottles, check how they look in the fridge and in a cooler, and adjust before reordering. See small batch stickers in Nigeria for why starting small works. Tell us the size (7 x 2 inches, or the length you measured), the shape, the unit you used and the quantity.
What is a 7 x 2 inch label used for?
It is a common wrap-around size for cylindrical plastic bottles, such as bottled water, honey, liquid soap and groundnut bottles. It is 7 inches long and 2 inches high.
How do I know if a 7 inch label will go all the way around my bottle?
Wrap a strip of paper around the bottle where the label will go, mark where it meets and measure the strip. If it is shorter than 7 inches, a 7 x 2 inch label wraps all the way round.
Can wrap-around labels leave a gap at the back?
Yes. A small gap at the back is normal and often looks neat. Just keep important text away from the ends.
Can you cut a wrap-around label in a different length?
Yes. We can cut stickers in any size, so tell us the length and height you need.
Do bottled water labels need NAFDAC information?
Bottled water is regulated in Nigeria, so check what the label must carry with the regulator. This is general information, not legal advice.
